Jim Steele

Originally from the inspiring landscapes of North Wales (where he filled countless sketchbooks of Snowdonia) Jim’s art and design career progressed through college and university to be trained to Degree level in Illustration in the late 90’s achieving a BA (Hons) and HND in Design at Glyndwr University, Wrexham.


Inspired by the techniques of Alan Lee, Chris Riddell, Rackham, Hokusai, Hiroshige, Bruegle and Blake – Jim’s ideas and compositions have elements of surreal realities, ancient mythology, science fiction, light and natural forces. On every sheet he wants to tell a story. He primarily uses layered watercolours over detailed Indian ink drawings then digitally toned – And can be versatile toward most themes.

In recent times, aside from his commissions, he has undertaken a series of lockdown/ coronavirus influenced paintings.
